If you’re a freelance musician (or video creator), you’ve probably heard of AdRev before. Not to be confused with AdSense or AdWords by Google, AdRev is a YouTube partner company that was initially designed to help creators and music rights holders monetize their work with ad placements on other channels using their content.
What a lot of people don’t know nowadays is the fact that YouTube has a very strict monetization system. In fact, if you use any type of music that is known to be copyrighted, you will deal with a copyright strike. This is not a pleasant thing to deal with at all, and most of the time it can be a very challenging experience for the content creator.
If you want to create a good marketing video, it makes sense to try and access the best music you can and include it in the video without paying. Obviously, this cuts some corners and it helps you spend less money on music. But on the other hand it also brings in problems, and that is potential copyright issues. Even if it makes sense to try and use various kinds of music yourself, at the same time you do need to make sure that you are allowed to use that music.
